JAMNAGAR: Jamnagar (rural) Congress MLA Raghavji Patel’s son Jayendra and three others, who are accused in a pet coke scam busted in July, surrendered before the police late on Sunday evening.

The accused withdrew their bail application from the Gujarat high court.

The Special Operations Group (SOG) of the city police had arrested seven people and case was registered against 35 people, including Patel’s son. The police had also seized 16 coal-laden trucks.

Sources said Jayendra runs a firm called Shivkrupa Transport in the city.

The accused, who had been given a contract by Essar Company to deliver imported coal to its power plant, had been allegedly diverting high quality coal imported from Indonesia to firms other than for which it was meant.

Police have seized coal and trucks worth Rs 1.62 crore till now and investigations are on. tnnSources said so far, the accused have sold 1,900 tonnes of coal to other firms by using 136 trucks to transport it.
