Following  National Green Tribunal (NGC-South Zone) order to maintain status quo on all project activities in the Amrit Mahal Kaval grassland, the works undertaken by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and BARC have come to a standstill since August 21.

No works have been undertaken at the DRDO site and big machines have become idle which has made many lives miserable. Most importantly, the ambitious project of Central Government aimed at overcoming regional imbalance has taken a backseat.

Many companies working in the region have sent their workers back as the work has been stopped. Speaking to Express, vice-president of District Science Centre Shankarappa said, “The work has been stalled due to vested interests of certain people, whereas the majority need institutions in the region as it provides direct and indirect employments.”
