NOIDA: The UP pollution control board has begun compiling a report highlighting details of hospitals with 200 beds or more that are violating norms related to bio-medical waste handling and disposal. The survey of all healthcare facilities is being carried out on directions of the National Green Tribunal.

The report is expected to be presented to the tribunal by next week. Following directions of the tribunal, Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board had issued orders to its regional centres to survey all hospitals that have 200 beds or more in districts under their jurisdiction. Officials said that the surveys were conducted in all districts, distributed under 27 regional centres, over one month.

The Biomedical Waste Rules, 1998 makes it mandatory for all facilities treating more than 1,000 patients per month to be covered under the act. However, officials say there is an absence of records about number of patients treated by facilities on a monthly basis.
