RAJKOT: State water resources ministerBabuBokhiria got regular bail from the Porbandardistrict and sessions court in the Rs 54 croreillegal limestone mining case.

Bokhiria and three others were sentenced to three years imprisonment on June 15. They were taken into custody, but immediately granted bail to appeal against the sentence.

Bokhiria also appealed for a stay on the sentence and the hearing was scheduled for July 6.

Besides Bokhiria, former Congress MP Bharat Odedara, alleged gangster Bhima Dula Odedara and his son Lakshman Dula Odedara, chairman of Porbandar marketing yard, were also sentenced to three years. Bhima Dula is already serving a sentence for the murder of Mulu Modhwadia.

Sources said that other three accused are expected to file their appeal soon.

In 2006, manager of Saurashtra Chemical Company Umesh Bhavsar had registered a complaint against four persons with Bagvadar Police station in Porbandar district alleging that they had illegally mined limestone from the land where the company holds mining rights.

Porbandar police had arrested Bokhiria in 2007 from Ahmedabad airport because after the complaint, he left the country and was declared as an absconder. However, the high court had later released him on bail. Bokhiria was made a cabinet minister in the Narendra Modi government after he won the Porbandar seat in 2012 assembly polls.
