BANGALORE: A former IAS officer, a police inspector and two mining company owners were arrested in connection with the Belekeri illegal iron ore export case and produced in a special CBI court here on Wednesday.

The quartet has been remanded in CBI custody for a week. The persons were identified as former bureaucrat Vishwanathan, police inspector Ramakanth Ullur from Bellary district and Deccan Mining Corporation owners Rajendra Kumar Jain and Ritesh Kumar Jain.

The mining company owners allegedly encroached land in Bellary, illegally mined iron ore, transported it to Belekeri port and exported it. Rajendra Kumar Jain had been allegedly abducted by criminals masquerading ing as Naxalites and was released after paying a ransom of Rs 3 crore, CBI sources said.
