HAZARIBAG: Following the raids at Napo village under the Barkagaon police station of Hazaribag district on Tuesday, several officers were suspended for their alleged involvement in the illegal mining racket in the area. The special task force constituted by SP Manoj Kaushikseized six tractors loaded with coal, said the SP. He added that seven persons were arrested in this connection and sent to jail on Wednesday

On being tipped off about coal mining rampant in the area, the SP himself headed the task force and conducted raids throughout the night, seized the tractors carrying more than 200 tons of coal, brought them back to Barkagaon police station and registered an FIR. The SP said, “I have suspended the entire police patrolling team headed by ASI Rajmani Singh and six constables for dereliction of duty immediately. I have also issued a show-cause notice to all of them asking them why they should not be dismissed from service for flouting the state’s and mine instructions.”

He has suspended more than six officers in charge of Bishnugarh, Barkagaon, Keredari, Hazaribag Mufassil, Churchu and some other police stations of the district, in the last four months, for their alleged involvement in illegal mining of coal in their areas, despite orders issued by him and the state government. He said, “Wednesday’s action will send out a clear signal to other police personnel posted in the coal belts of Hazaribag district.”
