The sand was taken from Sutlej river bed from Churwal village where mining has been banned

PCR cop Ashok Kumar’s right foot was fractured on the night of January 25 while he was trying to stop a sand trolley at Basti Jodhewal Chowk.

When the cop asked him to stop, the driver, Jagraj Singh, accelerated the speed and drove over Kumar’s foot. The driver later ran away but police seized the trolley. Ashok was operated upon at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital and is still admitted there.

The sand was taken from Sutlej river bed from Churwal village where mining has been banned.

The driver, booked by the police, was expected to surrender by Monday evening.

SHO Balwinder Singh said that the trolley was also overloaded.

In a separate incident, another driver of tractor trolley, Amar Singh, was booked for bringing sand from Sutlej river bed near Jainpur area. The driver was booked but later released on bail.
